Hello All,
Just a quick post to update you all on our 1st birthday event last month and one of the day’s surprises – the other one was that we actually had cake (!?!)…
On the day we had 17 people celebrating by playing many games, from Agricola to Le Havre, PitchCar, Santiago, Small World and Tante Tarantel as you can see here:
GTTG GAMER OF THE YEAR
But the main surprise was the GTTG Gamer Of The Year 2008/09 Award which was given to Jon Power in virtue of his outstanding contribution to the creation and development of our club. In fact, not happy with promoting GTTG through the Beyond Monopoly! mailings and mentioning us in radio interviews, Jon has charitably gifted GTTG with its 1st game: Polarity. Here is Jon with the trophy:

The GTTG Gamer Of The Year award aims to be the recognizing of outstanding achievement and gaming merit throughout the year. From May 2009 we are starting to record all games played, players and standings at the end of the games. In 12 months time we’ll tally and average all records and give the award (Trophy Cup, Medal, or maybe a Game) to the player with the best score*.
This award is for you. Do join the fun here at Garforth and play as much as you can!
See you all back on the 27th.
Cheerio!
GTTG
* Scoring: Every player gets points distributed inverse-proportionally to their standings in any given game (i.e. The winner of a 5-player game gets 5 points, and the player coming last gets 1 point). This means that whichever your finishing position you will always score some points (who knows if that last place in Saboteur doesn’t tip the balance in your favour?). In the end of April, each player’s final tally is divided by the total number of games played by him or her that year and then multiplied by the games played by everybody throughout the year (yep ALL games played, the total of the 12 sessions which should be well over 200). Then whoever has got the highest score wins. Examples: Wayne comes to the club 8 times during the year, playing a total of 38 games. He usually prefers 4 and 5 player games and unfortunately finishes last all the time, which means that by April 2010 his total points are 38. Dividing these points by the total number of games he played (38) gives a sub-total of 1 which multiplied by the total number of games played by everybody throughout the year at the club – let’s imagine a total of 228 games – gives him a final score of 228 points. His friend Garth on the other hand, has the great habit of winning most times, and raked 171 points over the same 38 games. In April we divide his 171 points by the 38 games he played (4.5) and multiply by the total of games played at the club throughout the year (228), giving him a grand total of 1026 points.
